Since inception, the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. (NABA) has provided more than $8 million in scholarship funds to deserving students preparing to enter various business professions. For fiscal year 2009 alone, NABA awarded close to $500,000 and the amount continues to grow

This essay contest takes its title from a 1951 poem by Langston Hughes: What Happens to a Dream Deferred? The poem helped propel the civil rights movement in the United States.

The American Architectural Foundation offers the Minority/Disadvantaged Scholarships in order to encourage diversity and equity in the architectural profession. These scholarships are open to high school seniors and college freshmen who plan to study architecture at a NAAB-accredited program.

The Actuarial Diversity Scholarship was formed in 1977 as a joint effort by the Casualty Actuarial Society and the Society of Actuaries. The door to the actuarial profession has been opened to hundreds of minority students over the years.

Since 1972, the American Geological Institute has administered the Minority Participation Program Geoscience Student Scholarships. The goal for this program is to develop the professional corps of underrepresented ethnic-minority students in the geosciences.

The program is open to hospitality management graduate students as well as other graduate majors who have an undergraduate hospitality management degree or at least four years employment in the industry.

In 2008 AH&LEF is created a new scholarship exclusively for incoming freshman to encourage enrollment in hospitality-related undergraduate programs and attract more students to the lodging industry.

Each year, students are awarded scholarships based on outstanding academic achievement and their involvement in AIChE programs and activities. Applicants must be members of a minority group that is underrepresented in chemical engineering.

The AICPA Fellowship for Minority Doctoral Students program ensures that CPAs of diverse backgrounds are visible in college and university classrooms to serve as role models and mentors to young people in planning their education and careers.
